Milia Removal

Milia are tiny, white, raised blemishes, usually occurring on the face. They lie under the skin, close to the skin’s surface. Milia are small benign plugs or cysts. These blemishes contain keratin that becomes trapped beneath the epidermis.

Milia are commonly found around the eyelids, cheeks, forehead and nose.

At Hayley’s Hair Removal & Aesthetics Poole, we will assess any skin imperfections and advise you on the best treatment plan. A patch test is not normally required prior to treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How Does Milia Removal Work?

A small probe is inserted directly in to the milia and a low current is then applied, via diathermy. The current acts to desiccate the keratinised fatty tissue, allowing it to break down and disperse. Diathermy is considered the most effective treatment for Milia.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

One treatment is usually successful, depending on the amount of milia you have. If you have a lot of milia you may need to come in for more than one session, as the skin may not tolerate over-treatment. Large milia may need more than one session to sufficiently break down the blemishes.

What Causes Milia?

The causes of milia are not fully understood but are believed to be associated with dry skin types, high cholesterol, and excessive Vitamin C in the diet.
